The Fundamentals of Intrinsic Safety (EX) Seminar

The use of Intrinsic Safety (EX) can offer significant savings, reliability and flexibility when compared to other hazardous area protection methods. In this training seminar, Pepperl+Fuchs will provide an in-depth overview of the theory behind Intrinsic Safety (EX) protection and its application within the process industry.

It will also provide a foundation for understanding the differences between zener diode barriers and galvanic isolators, the core fundamentals of approvals, certifications, control drawings and installation techniques. The course will also include a segment on safety integrity levels and how they relate to the process industry and hazardous location systems.

At the conclusion of this course, attendees should be able to:

  • Understand the basic concepts of Intrinsic Safety (EX) protection
  • Determine which apparatus (zener/galvanic) best solves the application
  • Specify and proof a system for intrinsic safety
  • Understand the Safety Integrity Levels (SIL)
  • Understand the basic guidelines for installation and maintenance in hazardous locations

The class will cover topics including:
